Why, hello there journal. Nice to see you again!

I keep meaning to sit down and write an entry, but I seem to always get distracted partway through.

Work and studying has been keeping me busy, and... I decided to change my major to just Earth Science instead of ES and chem. Long story short, I get to sell some of my textbooks which makes me extremely happy, haha. Also, I will get to graduate sooner and take... electives! Huzzah.

So, instead of taking a fun mathy chemistry course this summer, I will be taking a biology course. I registered yesterday for it, was 19th on the waitlist for the lecture section and 5th on the waitlist for the lab... this morning when I checked, I had moved up one spot in the lecture! 18th. Excellent. Still 5th for the lab, though.

I'm secretly very excited about being a dirty biologist this summer. Shhh.

Let's see, what else?

Not much else. Watching Firefly again. And now, I must study for organic chem. Erinn, away!

If anyone has a tumblr account, you can find/follow me over there at bromine. I post much more frequently over there, albit about different things (ie: mostly pictures).

In other news... I have an exam in 8 days. Crap.

In news this week,

I cut all my hair off (I almost look like a boy... in the best way possible.)

and

Work is stupid.

That is all.

Woke up at 5:30am, proceeded to puke guts out. Went back to bed. Got up at 8:30 to drive the boy to work. Got home, went back to bed. Proceeded to wake up at 10:15am and puke guts out. Have been reading shoujo manga ever since.

So, I'm not having the greatest day. Thankfully, it's Monday, which means I don't have class! Yay. I shall continue to pursue said girly manga.

Dear LJ, I'm sorry I've been neglecting you. Sincerely, me.

I've been trying to sort out my degree requirements, so I know what courses I need to take. I have 2 conflicting sources: a degree planning worksheet which says it's up-to-date (2009/2010 calendar year), and the actual calendar itself. I'm sure it will sort itself out... and I need to make an appointment with my adviser anyways.

I've got it lined up so that next year, I can take the following courses:

CHEM:
- Organic Chemistry (235)
- Physical Chemistry (245)
- Transition Metal Chemistry (324)
- Physical Chemistry Lab (364)

EOS:
- Sedimentary Geology (201)
- Mineralogy (205)
- Geochemistry (240)

MATH:
- Calculus II (101)
- Introduction to Differential Equations (201)
- Multivariable Calculus (205)

PHYS:
- General Physics (102)

Pretty okay, I think. Not looking forward to all the Math! of! DOOM! but I'm sure it will be fine. After next year, I will never have to take another math course again... excluding Quantum Chemistry which is all math. Boo.

Things with the boy are pretty good, I think. Except when he doesn't turn his alarm clock off on both of our days off and it wakes me up. Grr. Oh well. ♥ I plan on dragging him downtown with me today so that I may snag some bubble tea (yuuum!).

Today is the grad photo for the Chemistry department grads... followed by a pizza lunch. Pizza which I have to go and get and carry up to the 4th floor of ELL. By myself. Not win.

I went over to Simon's place last night with Dave... good times abounded. I made spaghetti. We ate apple crumble with earl gray tea. It was delightful!

In closing, lemon yogurt is quite tasty.

Our renos are finally (sort of) done!

There's a few little things that we're missing (transitions between rooms, a few shelves), a LOT of things we need to buy (oh god), and a moderate amount of cleaning that needs to be done.

Today, I'm planning on cleaning the whole place from top to bottom (we need cleaning supplies...) and we're going to move the rest of The Boy's things in tonight.

Well, off to clean!

Tonight, we get to sleep in a double bed... finally.

(The boy & I have been sharing a twin size bed for the past 6.5 months. It has been quite... cozy. I've gotten a few elbows to the face & fallen off the bed a lot...)

Huzzah!

Also, the current moodtheme I'm using is very disappointing. I think I will have to get a new set.

This icon, I love it.

The Dudes, I love them. Website / Myspace. I urge you to have a listen!

To quote,
'The dudes are legit. They make rock songs that come from the most closely guarded vaults of the emotional banks. They sing about the triumph of good over no good. They trumpet the march of the working class lady. They tell stories of love gained and lost, knife fights, cops and kindness. The dudes want you to see them play live. They would like you to laugh and dance. After the show, they want to give you a high five. Scott will teach you a special handshake. Bob will ask you for your phone number. They used to have a brown van that took them across canada thrice. Now its paid the price. She's sitting along the highway at a petrocan in winnipeg and the last they checked, the doors were still unlocked. You know, if you want to go sit in it or something. Soon they will come to your town in a blue van. Will you be there? Maybe sleep on your floor? "I'm Wednesdays foster son..."'

Chemistry pubcrawl was AWESOME. We went to a karaoke bar, a burlesque show at my faaavourite bar (where we did impromptu dances ourselves with given props, see above... why yes, that is a pink feather duster, and yes, I am WORKIN' IT OUUUT.), and out "clubbing". By "clubbing", I mean that we went to a club and a cute guy and I started talking about the lab we're both in and did more shots than we should've. FUN TIMES.

In other news, I was going to post a fun graph I made about things (time spent on facebook vs. time spent on lab writeup relative to due date), but I didn't. Nah nah nah nah.

Items:

- Wrote organic midterm.
- Wrote 260 final (we have 2 profs teaching; I have another final at the beginning of April).
- I am writing the lab report for B90, about cobalt cage complexes. Fun times abound.
- Pub crawl on Friday = win win win. Our shirt design looks really awesome; it's a wine bottle pouring, with the 1H NMR of ethanol forming out of the wine.
- Student elections start today! Usually the voter turn out is really poor (17% of the student population voted last year...), but... we'll see.

Ah, that's about it. Not much is going on at the moment...

Hello out there, were on the air
it's hockey night tonight!
The tension grows,
the whistle blows,
and the puck goes down the ice.
The goalie jumps,
and and the players bump,
and the fans all go insane.
Someone roars:
"Bobby Scores!"
At the good old hockey game!

Now, normally, I do not follow hockey at all.

Today is an exception.

Today is the Canada VS Germany Olympic men's hockey game. Today is the game that determines whether or not we move on to the quarter finals (to play Russia!) after the 5-3 defeat by the US (which I caught the tail end of. Ryan Miller TOTALLY outplayed Martin Brodeur, amaaaazing saves!).

Granted, it IS only a game, but it's fun to be into it for a little while. Our nation's past-time and all, right?

Plus, there will be beer and junk food involved. Win!

*scuttles away*

ETA: Also, I had my interview for my A71 lab report today! It went pretty well, I think, my marker was pretty pleased with the way I handled all the questions he threw at me, haha. I need to look up stuff on metal-ligand back bonding stuff, however. Perhaps I will do that this evening.

ETA2: Really? Really? This isn't as exciting as I would've hoped. I'm almost... rooting for Germany. Almost.

Eating toast is STILL one of the best parts of my day.

Conclusion: provided that toast and life can be correlated, the toast has gotten better (increasing as a function of the general increasing goodlyness of life), and/or my life has gotten worse (toast goodlyness is in an inverse relationship with my life goodlyness).

... also, chicken noodle soup is effing delicious.

The Olympics are happening! Several of my friends have gone over to Vancouver for the week to paaaarty it up (loads of free shows = daglksjgagWANT), but I'm staying home to, you know, do, uh, stuff.

My reading week has been quite unproductive, likely due to the fact I spent most of it in bed. Oh well.

I did, however, buy myself a new wallet! It's yellow and delightful and has just the right amount of room for stashing all my shiz. Also, my old wallet was literally falling apart at the seams. There has been more than one instance where I went to grab something out of it and ended up with all my change/cards on the ground.

Today, I plan on plugging away at some organic chem and maaaaybe studying for my final in 260 next week. Probably a good plan, at any rate.

Oh, one more thing: they released the final exam schedule and summer course list. I will be done by April 15th at 5pm! Good stuff. Also, I plan on taking 2 or 3 courses this summer (calculus II and analytical chem, possibly physics) depending on how much work plans on fucking me around. Oh work. ffffffff.

Life update:

So, ah, I've spent the last 3 days in bed... with a kidney infection. :( Much suckage. Today was the first day my fever actually broke and I haven't been too dizzy to get up and walk around. Antibiotics are working! I've had absolutely no appetite, so other than like a handful of grapes, all I've been having has been water.

Um, yeah. Not a lot happens when you're lying around in bed feeling poorly, I suppose.

Also: Sick on Valentine's day = suck.

Right-o, I write a midterm in 3 hours...

Time to go paint some baseboards and prime a few walls!

*runs off*
maoli: (the undead)
There's only two more days and one more midterm until reading break! Hoorah.

So, yesterday, my pregnant female guppy had babies! About 16 or so, I counted. And then... she died. And then her male partner died. Sad : (

Today in 260, we talked about "The Arctic Forest of the Middle Eocene"; turns out that well above the arctic circle (78.06 degrees N +/- 1.6 degrees was the the value given), around 45 million years ago there was a fairly productive forest... even though there was 115 days continuous darkness ("winter") and 130 days continuous light ("summer"), the mean annual temperature was around 12 C, and frost was quite rare.

I thought it was interesting : 9

We switched profs for this class too; they both share the course. I really like his style; he gives us a paper to read, but instead of us blindly grasping at straws, he actually gives us a list of questions to ask ourselves while reading it. His name is Kim Juniper; I have had him once before in first year and really enjoyed his class.

The ChemSoc meeting today went pretty well... I'm helping out with filling the candy bags tomorrow night around 6. Should be fun! I plan on making some delightfully cheesy valentines and stuffing them into people's unsuspecting bags, bwa ha ha ha ha.

...

I made mushroom risotto for dinner. It was quite good. I am going back for seconds soon.

Nom nom nom!

Here are some stats from today:

#hrs sleep over last 24 hrs: 3.25.
# pages lab report: 41. (handed in at noon!)
# cups coffee consumed: 1.
# ricecakes eaten: 5.

Well, at least it's done and handed in. I don't think I'll be getting an A+ on this one, but oh well. No more labs due until March 8th, I think... a whole month!

In other news, my capslock key has come off my keyboard. Now I can't just cruise through being cool; I have to actually hold down the shift key and type.

*goes to bed*

DEAR SELF:

Tungsten has more than one stable isotope. 180(0), 182(0), 183(1/2), 184(0), 186(0). 183 = highest natural abundance(100%), 186 is second (93.2507%), 182 is third (85.7515%).

Also: This [Jπ = spin. Good stuff around page 95? Reference!]

... please disregard.

The "working" mood for this mood theme makes me sad D:

Let me see here. I did most of my B90 lab today; just a synthesis of my cobalt cage complex with chloride and further reduction to do next lab = short lab period for me. With any luck, I'll be able to plug through a good portion of it through reading break...

... Oh, by the by, reading break is next week. I have only a lab (A71, due on monday) and a midterm (math, on thursday) standing in between me and bliss (ie: sleep). Life is good.

I ended up with 101% on my 231 midterm 8-] I probably won't be able to keep that up, haha. I'm glad there were a tonne of bonus questions~~

Innnnn other news, I need to SLEEP NOW. Niiiiight!

ETA: I read BLEACH 391... )

Go to urbandictionary.com and look up your first name; post the results to your journal.

Erinn )

Guys, I'm a... ganstuh hoe. (?? - see icon)

Ah, in other news, ChemSoc meeting today went well; I'm putting some posters together for tomorrow to advertise for our Valentine's day activity & our pubcrawl... I still need to send out the e-mail with the minutes from today. That may or may not get done late tonight... most likely first thing tomorrow morning.

Our V-Day activity = letting students decorate paper bags with glitter and crayons and stickers all week and then we fill them up with candy and those cute paper valentines (I CHOO CHOO CHOOSE YOU♥♥). ChemSoc: spreading candy and glitter to all.

Dinner went well yesterday; the guys stayed for about 4.5 hours and my soup/salad/cake turned out really well. We also discovered I suck at making coffee.

Right, 45 minutes more of labbing before bed. Go!
